WHY INFORMED SPORT CERTIFICATION MATTERS - KAGED MUSCLE

Athletes are always looking to improve their training, diet and supplementation. From ancient  Olympians incorporating dried figs into their diets, to gold medalists of the 1990s popularizing creatine monohydrate, athletes have always been looking for the next big thing to give them an edge over their competition. Unfortunately, many of the seemingly harmless supplements athletes and lifters turn to may contain banned substances that not only put their competitive status at risk, but their health, too.. It’s estimated that up to 9% of anti-doping rule violations are a result of contaminated substances.[1]This is why it’s important for athletes to make sure that every supplement they take is banned substance free, and why we’ve partnered with Informed Sport

What is Informed Sport?

Informed Sport was established by LGC, one of the leading anti-doping laboratories in the world. Informed Sport is a voluntary testing program that provides athletes with assurance that a supplement is tested for banned substances. Products that carry the Informed Sport certification undergo a complete and thorough manufacturing review, every lot tested for contaminants and illicit substances , before they're released to the market.

What Does Informed Sport Test For?

One of the leading authorities on anti-doping screening, Informed Sport tests for over 200+ compounds banned by the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA). This includes anabolic agents, beta-2 agonists, diuretics, hormones, and narcotics.

The Supplement Industry’s Banned Substance Problem

A major issue in some corners of the dietary supplement industry is poor quality control, which can result in banned substances making their way into your  supplements. Researchers have analyzed dietary supplement samples and found WADA \-contaminated substances in 12-58% of the materials tested.[2] Other studies examining samples of dietary supplements used by adolescent athletes detected prohormones, steroids, and SARMS (Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators)[3]

A study by the International Olympic Committee on “non-hormonal” muscle-building supplements in the U.S. found nearly 20% of them to contain banned substances ranging from trace nanogram amounts to higher amounts.[3][4] Studies have even shown that banned substances have been found in seemingly harmless supplements including amino acids, herbal extracts, and even vitamins.[7]
